Spirituality
On February 3rd, we held a whole school Spirituality Day where we explored spirituality through four different types of moments: mirror, door, window and candle moments. We introduced each idea to the children and spent time unpacking them together through collective worship and follow up activities which were completed in small groups. Each type of moment was explained in its own way, helping the children understand the different ways we can notice, reflect and make sense of the world around us.
Mirror Moments
Bible verse: “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” – Psalm 139:14
Mirror moments help us think about who we are on the inside. They encourage children to pause and reflect on their feelings, their strengths and the special qualities that make them unique. These moments also open up gentle conversations about confidence and self belief, helping children understand that everyone has times when they doubt themselves and that this is completely normal.
Christians believe every person is wonderfully made and deeply valued by God. Mirror moments give us the chance to celebrate what makes each of us special, while also recognising that we can support one another to see the good in ourselves.
Window Moments
Bible verse: “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.” – Psalm 24:1
Window moments help children look outward and notice the world around them. These moments encourage pupils to pause, observe and appreciate the beauty, people and experiences beyond themselves. Whether it’s nature, acts of kindness or something new they’ve learnt, window moments help children develop curiosity and gratitude. Christians believe that noticing the world in this way helps us appreciate God’s creation and recognise the wonder in everyday life.
Door Moment
Bible verse: “Be kind and compassionate to one another.” – Ephesians 4:32
Door moments invite children to think about the choices they make and the actions they take. They represent opportunities to step forward, try something new or show kindness to others. These moments help pupils reflect on how they can make positive decisions, open themselves to new experiences and support those around them. In Christian teaching, choosing kindness and compassion is seen as a way of living out God’s love in the world.
Candle Moment
Bible verse: “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” – Psalm 119:105
Candle moments are times of stillness, peace and reflection. They help children slow down, think quietly and find calm in their busy day. These moments can involve prayer, silent reflection or simply taking time to breathe and reset. Christians believe that God’s light guides and comforts us, and candle moments help children recognise the importance of hope, peace and inner strength.
