Times Tables

At Amport School, we place great importance on children developing quick and confident recall of their times tables. Secure knowledge of multiplication facts is essential for future success in maths, especially as pupils move on to more complex ideas such as multiplying larger numbers, working with fractions and decimals, and solving multi‑step problems.

Our aim is for all pupils to confidently recall all multiplication facts up to 12 × 12 by the end of Year 4. This strong foundation allows older children to deepen and apply their understanding across the maths curriculum.

To support rapid recall, we use a structured and progressive approach that helps pupils learn their times tables in a clear sequence while continually revisiting facts they have already mastered. Each week, children complete a short times table check to monitor their fluency with the facts they are currently learning, along with some previously taught facts. When they can answer all questions accurately, they move on to the next check.

We encourage regular practice at home as well as in school, as little and often makes a big difference to confidence and speed. We ask that children use Doodle tables as the primary way of learning their tables at home. They can access this with their usual doodle credentials. Below are some other useful websites that can help children rehearse their times tables alongside Doodle in a fun and engaging way:
